So as christmas day has almost passed I wonder how many of us has recieved some hankies as christmas presents.
I wonder if those who use tissues and have never tried using a hankie has recieved any, and now they'ill try them and start using them.
I haven't so far, but i've yet to recieve acouple of presents from some friends, just maybe there are some coming my way, who knows.

I've never heard of someone giving or receiving handkerchief for Christmas. Still, I guess it's not a bad idea. Might be a better stocking stuffer than a gift, unless you gave one of those really nice monogrammed ones.

I've had to buy some plain white handkerchiefs for a Christmas present. That was exciting.
The excitement faded quickly, though, because - under the direction of my mother, wrap them up and label them for my grandfather for his gift.

I'm not sure if I'd like to recieve handkerchiefs for Christmas. It would be a unique gift, that's for sure.

There was a time when I got them for Xmas.
And at that time I believed receiving hankies = getting a cold.
At least it seemed like that, because in my younger years I used to catch quite a lot of colds.

Things have changed.
My friends and relatives seem to consider hankies as a 'wrong' Xmas present.
I do not get them anymore, even if I would really like that.
And I would take that cold on top, as colds have become less frequent too.

This subject interests me. It seems like hanky use is rare in the UK these days, and when I do see a handkerchief it's usually a plain or bordered one in blue or white.

However... before Christmas, I noticed that the amounts of hankies on display in my local department stores increased, and there were more coloured and patterned hankies.
M&S even had little displays of Christmas hankies by the tills; I think they had a Homer Simpson design on them.

It makes me wonder... who is buying these hankies? huh.gif Do they sell well? The store obviously thinks people still buy novelty hankies as Christmas gifts, so why have I never seen anyone blowing his nose on Homer Simpson?

While browsing for hankies on eBay recently, I even found that they made boxes of Doctor Who hankies with little pictures of Daleks and David Tennant on them. blink.gif
Who thought that was a killer merchandising opportunity?? smile.gif

Oddly enough, I actually have two Homer Simpson hankies, that my ex-girlfriend (yes!) got me. Very thoughtful. They are white with Homers head embroidered on them.

At Christmas dinner this year, I was sick with a cold and I had a kleenex in hand. My sister actually said to me "I almost got you some handkerchiefs for Christmas! I should have!"
I felt a moment of panic...WHAT?! Why did she think it was good to buy me hankies? Then I remembered that in Target I'd seen hankies embroidered with 'N' on the clearance rack. Apparently she'd seen them too and thought it'd be fun cause it had my initial on it!

We bought my father inlaw some handkerchiefs for Christmas.... we actually bought him a subscription to a fishing magazine, but they couldn't send it to him before Christmas, so my wife suggested we just get him some handkerchiefs while we were in a department store the weekend before Christmas... I of course chose the ones with the nicest colours / patterns on rolleyes.gif

Well, Hankachoo- joking apart, it's nice to know that a few people still do give hankies as Christmas presents. smile.gif
