Under normal circumstances this is my ritual :
- I grab hanky and flick it open
- I hold it with both hands, folding the edge over my fingers
- stretched hands at each side of the nose
- blowing one nostril at a time, starting with the left (soft blower)
- wipe the nose with hanky in right hand
- hanky back up the sleeve or in pocket

Fear not, my friend, there is no right or wrong way, it's just a matter of personal preference and finding out what works best for you. I like blowing into my hanky folded in half, then folding over the wet spot and blowing again if I need to, but my advice is just to use your hanky and find out for yourself. I hold mine using both hands, and the hankie is either fully unfolded, probably for the first blow, then I fold it in within itself for subsequent blows.

My favourite style of holding the hankie is two handed, but I also like it when you're holding the main part over your nose with one hand, then pulling the other side with your other hand. Its hard to describe so I'll see if I can find a pic.

Good and very important question!

If I've time and there aren't too many people watching I'll take my time unfolding the hanky, and usually unfold it fully. I hold it with two hands, prayer style and blow somewhere near the centre of the hanky. If I fell like I've got a lot of mucus, I'll start by blowing through both nostrils, then blow one at a time (usually left first, but I'll check this now I think about it!) by pressing with the fingers on one side, then the other. To finish with I'll wipe outside (sometimes with two hands symmetrically, sometimes with one whilst the other with part of the hanky whilst the other holds the remainder), then if I'm alone inside as well (one side, then the other) - if I'm not alone I'll leave the inside bit till later.

Sometimes, especially at this time of year when pollen is rife, a sneeze will lead to a blow - I usually like to move straight from a sneeze to a blow - and if this happens, I often have less time to unfold the handkerchief and may start by using it unfolded to a quarter size, then unfolding it when I get a gap in the mucous activity.
